Politini Recap: Do Women Really Want to Have it All?

IMG_4238This week we attended the Women Rule Summit, a series dedicated to exploring how women are leading change in policy, politics and their communities. The event which was organized by Politico, the Tory Burch Foundation and Google was truly inspiring so much so we created a show around it.

Listen: Settling In or Suiting Up: Do Women Really Want to Have it All?

The common theme running through the event was the idea that women can indeed have it all–in phases and with help. “All” means different things for different people. For some it’s a family and high powered career for others it’s a career on their terms. One thing is for sure without the support of other women we will continue to fight an up hill battle.

There is a cold place in hell for women who don’t support other women.– Madeline Albright

Not only do women need to help other women but that we must create a workforce that caters to needs of all of it’s workers not just women. “If you are not building a workforce that supports women then you are hurting the US economy and our ability to grow” said panelist Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

This week on Politini we chatted with two incredibly dynamic women to get the 411 on millennials, mothers and the desire to create a life you love.  Emily Tisch Sussman, campaign director for Center for American Progress Action Fund, gave Politini listeners the scoop on the next wave of the women’s movement: “For us to get to the next phase of feminism we must broaden it to include men”. Michelle Mitchell, Manager of Legislative Affairs for Planned Parenthood and President of her local PTA and mother of two, reminded our listens of something important: “We need to remember that women are beasts. We are quick to pick up new skills… we are worth the investment”.
