After a week filled with pomp and politics Mercedes Benz fashion week has come to an end. While many were dazzled with the styles that came prancing down the runways we were most interested in who was wearing the clothes than than the outfits themselves.
As fashion week kicked-off former model turned activist Bethann Hardison sent a letter to all of the major fashion outlets highlighting the racial imbalance that exists on the runway.
Eyes are on an industry that season after season watches fashion design houses consistently use of one or no models of color.
No matter the intention, the result is racism.
We couldn’t agree more. In 2015 African American buying power will have reached $1 Trillion. Yes, you read that correctly. With that said, we need to better capitalize on our buying power and demand better.
