Last week, Gospel singer and “Ex-Gay” Donnie McClurkin was uninvited from a scheduled performance at the ‘From Gandhi to King Peace Concert’ in Washington, D.C. commemorating the March on Washington.
When you think about what Gandhi and Dr. King stood for in their lives–peace, justice, equality–you have to wonder why a man who likened members of the LGBT community to criminals and drug addicts would be invited in the first place. Gandhi and Dr. King spread messages of love and peace and McClurkin does not– proclaiming that you hate the sin not the sinner–is not exactly an act of opening you’re heart and mind.
