This week on Politini we discussed the 40th anniversary of Roe versus Wade, the case that legalized abortion and liberated women to control their own reproductive systems. It’s 40 years later and religious fundamentalists are still waging an assault on women’s reproductive freedom. This week it’s birth control access that is back on the chopping block and on its way to being challenged in the courts.

Here’s a clip of Aisha our resident “Wonk Star” on Craig Melvin’s MSNBC Brain Trust last weekend that lead to this week’s show:
So, without further ado here’s the round-up that will help you impress your friends at brunch *wink*
FIVE Rihanna’s (not surprising) Confession: The Bahamian provocateur graced the cover of Rolling Stones and opened up about her relationship with Chris Brown. She tells the mag “after being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I’d rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it,” she adds. Ah, I guess the rest of us will just have to stay glued to the police scanners to hear if this is actually true.
FOUR Beyonce Shuts the Haters Down: Singing the Star Spangled Banner acapella at the Super Bowl halftime new conference the Queen B ended her spectacular vocal display with asking “any questions??” to reporters and laughing. We hear you Bey, loud and crystal clear!
THREE Boy Scouts to Consider Lifting National Anti-Gay Ban (Again). The Boy Scouts have a long held policy of discrimination regarding the LGBT community and have come under fire and lawsuit for their stance.
TWO Barack and Hillary Unite: For the first time ever President Obama sat down for a joint interview with someone other than FLOTUS. The President and (now former) Secretary Hillary Clinton discuss their “(initially tumultuous) relationship, 2016, and the Secretary’s much needed break after on 60 minutes with Steven Kroft.
ONE President Obama Recognizes ALL Families: This week the President made history when he included the needs of bi-national same-sex couples in his new immigration plan. His proposal would allow same-sex families to treated like whole families and provide visas for one another. Of course Republicans think treating same sex couples like people is a problem. Republican senators who are considering immigration reform generally oppose the amendment. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has said that protecting same-sex families is “not of paramount importance” and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) called their inclusion a mistake, adding, “Why don’t we just put legalized abortion in there and round it all out.” Um, Senator Graham Roe v. Wade already legalized a women’s right to choice.
That’s it for us this week on the foolishness and frustrations that happened from Hollywood to Poliwood. Make sure to tune into Politini EVERY Thursday on Blis.Fm 8-9pm EST!
