As many of you have heard we lost a dear friend and brother last week and the world lost a star. David Baldwin Barnes was one of the most captivating, charming and fabulous man we’ve ever known. While living in DC he took the Hill by storm–beginning his political career as an intern in Congressman Rangel’s office. To David, “titles were a state of mind” so he carried himself with as much confidence and grace as any Chief of Staff would. He soon moved from Congressman Rangel’s office to Congresswoman Yvette Clarke’s and then finally to Press Secretary for the House Foreign Affairs. When David set his mind to something it was as good as done–this was one of his many many gifts.
What we have learned through David’s passing is that it is NOT the amount of years of your life that matters it’s what you do with the time you’ve been given, and David never let a moment be squandered. That’s what we loved most about him.
Almost one week after his passing his family is still working to bring David home from Accra, Ghana where he moved to work with his best friend a year ago to found SOLVE, a sustainable agriculture business that is making big moves.
So, please join us this Thursday February 28th at the Park at Fourteenth as we hold a fundraiser in tribute to David and to help his family bring him home. Donate and RSVP for the event here: https://ddbfund.eventbrite.com/
