Poliwood Round-Up: The Party of Family Values?

I know you all are on pins and needles awaiting “Big Daddy Cain’s” announcement tomorrow on whether or not he will stay in the race for the Republican nomination. The “pro-family” candidate is currently facing 4 separate sexual harassment charges and has recently admitted to a consensual affair.

Can’t you just smell the hypocrisy in the air?

As I type this the embattled candidate is in conference with his wife to see whether or not he should quit while he’s behind. He went from 31% in the polls to 8% in just 2 short months.

Don’t politicians hire people to vet their candidacy before they run for public office and embarrass themselves and their families? Guess not.

Cain now joins a long and infamous list of Republicans who can’t seem to keep their pants on! From Newt Gingrich whose had as many affairs as wives to Ensign who tried to buy his way out of his sex scandal to Governor Sanford’s “disappearance” to South America…you know to find his soul mate, while his legal mate was at home—the list goes on Ad nauseam.

To be honest I don’t really care if a politician cheats on their spouse or taps their toe in the restroom. What I do care about are the Republicans sanctimonious speeches on “family values” while their off screwing around on their families while simultaneously screwing LGBT families out of legal protections.

They say the people who spout hate the loudest are generally the ones with the most to hide… I’m looking at you Eddie Long. But here’s the thing—no one would really give a damn if they weren’t so pious. They dare to talk about how marriage equality ruins the “sanctity” of marriage while they’re repeatedly stepping out on their wives or worse.

If Republicans were truly the party of “family values” they wouldn’t support legislation such as the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which denies equal protection under the law to gay couples or push for Draconian immigration laws that seek to criminalize those seeking a better life and tear families apart. If they were genuinely concerned about “the children” as they say, then they wouldn’t seek to cut Women Infant and Children (WIC) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Programs that assist low income families that are struggling to provide for their children. They wouldn’t make sweeping cuts to education or make statements like Newt Gingrich just did stating that “poor kids have no work ethic”.

Yeah, this is really a party that cares about family! *eyes rolling*

There are real families out there without any security. That work tirelessly everyday to make a life for themselves and their loved ones. They raise children and do their best to protect them when our government turns a blind eye because their parents may be of the same gender or immigrants or poor.
Rethuglicans would do best to keep their own homes in order and stay the hell out of ours!

Inspiring words on what family really means from a lovely young man after the jump!
